Landscape Painting Foundations
A four-week studio class focused on seeing, planning, and
painting landscapes in oil.
Landscape Painting Foundations is an invitation into a slower, more grounded way of approaching landscape painting.
This four-week studio class is designed for painters who want clarity, structure, and confidence, without shortcuts, quick tricks, or surface-level results. Each session builds toward finished landscape paintings through observation, planning, and intentional decision-making.
If you’ve ever felt unsure where to start
If you’ve ever felt unsure where to begin or like you’re guessing your way through a painting,
you’re not alone.
Many painters reach a point where they have materials and basic skills, but not a clear process. You may know how to paint something, yet struggle to translate what you see into a cohesive landscape.
This class is designed to slow that moment down. We’ll build a repeatable process for planning and painting landscapes,
so your decisions feel intentional, not improvised.
This class is for you if
Landscape Painting Foundations is a good fit if:
You’re new to landscape painting and want a strong, thoughtful foundation
You’ve painted before but feel scattered or inconsistent
You want structure without rigidity
You value understanding over imitation
You’re drawn to landscapes and want to paint them with intention
Many students describe this class as either a strong starting point
or the missing middle that helped everything click.
What we’ll be doing
Painting is the main outcome.
This is a process-focused class, with an emphasis on observation and intentional decision-making rather than quick results.
Over four weeks, we’ll work through the full landscape painting process—from initial observation and planning through to finished oil paintings. You’ll learn how to simplify complex scenes, make confident compositional choices, and build paintings that feel cohesive rather than overworked.
The emphasis is on landscapes, oil paint, and developing a repeatable approach you can return to long after the class ends.

Optional feedback is available for students who would like individualized guidance on their weekly work.
The teaching approach
This class reflects how I work in my own studio.
I teach landscape painting through observation, restraint, and understanding the why behind each choice. Rather than chasing results, we focus on building a process that gives you confidence to approach new landscapes on your own.
Questions are encouraged, and progress is measured in clarity as much as finished work.
This class helped me understand how to plan a painting, make adjustments along the way, and finish with confidence. Calina’s framework brought clarity to a process that had always felt scattered.
